Utah Entrepreneur Challenge Selects Winners

Now in its fourth year, the winner of the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge receives a $40,000 cash award. This year the Challenge received 162 applications from schools all around the state of Utah, representing approximately 560 students. The 2003 competition was concluded on April 23rd, 2003, at the Final Awards Banquet held at Rice-Eccles Stadium on the U of U campus. Speaker at the dinner was Lincoln Spoor, an entrepreneur with Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. The top ten finalists made a live presentation for the final judging.
First prize went to Ben Smith of Brigham Young University for his entry ScheduleWorks, an Internet application development company, specializing in automated solutions for scheduling and HR data management. The runner-up prize went to Benjamin Zimmer from BYU for Property Solutions. The judging panel was made up of eleven professionals from the community representing investment bankers, lawyers, venture capitalists, educators, and successful entrepreneurs.
