Property Solutions' Redesigned Online Applications Demonstrate 41% Completion Rate
October 23 2012
One year after the debut of Property Solutions' industry-pioneering redesign, completion rate triples among online applicants
Provo, UT (PRWEB) --October 22, 2012-- Property Solutions International, Inc., the largest provider of property management websites and payments, announced performance results for its usability-optimized online applications, including a 41 percent completion rate for all applications started. Released in October 2011, Property Solutions' redesigned rental applications feature a simplified interface and a streamlined navigation with response-dependent fields. The new design is characteristized by flexible navigation to maximize data capture, and includes a user-friendly email invite system to facilitate the co-applicant process. With more than 2.2 million applications completed so far this year, Property Solutions' online applications boast the most robust integrations in the industry, pulling and providing real-time updates directly from clients' property management software.
In order to deliver the most intelligent, user-friendly online application in the industry, Property Solutions performed a series of usability tests, measuring task time, click counts, and drop-off points. "Our research revealed that by keeping it short and only asking for necessary information, we could substantially improve the application experience and reduce the number of incomplete applications," explained Property Solutions product development manager Jaime Conde. "Another major deterrent we identified were frequent error messages, which can bog down the process and frustrate users."
Pulling from the results they discovered, Property Solutions created their redesigned applications to allow users to move freely between various steps, and withholding prompts to correct missing or incomplete fields until the very end of the application. This feature also helps performance at the site level by allowing personnel to access real-time information at multiple data capture points. So as a prospect navigates through each step of the application, valuable information is collected piece by piece, allowing staff to monitor how far the individual has progressed through the form and follow-up on any incomplete applications.
According to Conde, the redesign also brought a more modern interface, "It's sleek, with a generous amount of whitespace between fields for a cleaner, simpler look." With regard to web layout, the company adopted strictly top to bottom, vertical input fields, due to the confusion that left to right, columned fields tend to generate. "While columned input fields force users to jump back a forth across the page, vertical fields have a structured, linear flow, keeping everything aligned straight with the eye," Conde described.
Property Solutions also brought broad enhancements to the functionality and workflow of the application itself while still emphasizing customizability for clients. "Whatever existing processes or regulations that companies have in place, they can be merged and adapted for our system," said Conde.
Within the flow of the application form itself, the questions displayed are now response-driven, and auto populate according to the answers which users select. As Conde explained, "This helps expedite the process and prevents users from becoming tangled in questions that don't apply to them specifically." The new applications also feature a straightforward, user-friendly system for facilitating submissions by co-applicants. The application prompts users to either provide information for their co-applicants or invite them via email to supply their information separately. And companies have full capacity to customize applicant types and associated fees, according to the relationship between applicants (e.g. spouse, roommate, child over 18). A similar online process is also used in requesting information of an applicant's guarantor, if applicable.
In a 2011 study, Property Solutions identified that less than 25 percent of all rental applications were completed online, compared to printed PDFs, fax and scan, and onsite forms. Beyond the commonly held operational benefits associated with the transition to digital records (i.e. reduced supply costs, environmental impact, and manual data entry, among others), online applications include field requirements--for example, a social security number must be nine digits long or a birth year must be within a specified ranged. "This helps make sure that information submitted by applicants is valid. It grants an oversight that paper applications can't," Conde said. "Prospects also enjoy the convenience of completing their applications online because they can do so from any location at any time, without requiring them to go to the physical leasing office."
Customers already using Property Solutions' online applications can switch to the redesigned applications free of charge. Those interested in learning more are asked to contact their sales representative or visit http://www.propertysolutions.com.
