News from the Summit: A New Lease on Life for Those Experiencing Homelessness

Posted by: Entrata | Category: Company Announcements,Newsletters,Summit,Values

Entrata has once again partnered with Shelters to Shutters to help raise money to relieve homelessness in our communities. At last year’s Summit, attendees heard firsthand the heartfelt story of Odessa Moore, a participant in Shelters to Shutters’ program to transition individuals from homelessness to economic self sufficiency. There was not a dry eye in the room as she told of the hope, confidence and stability the program provided to her and her family.

“After a series of unfortunate events for me and my four small children, Shelters to Shutters gave me my life back and set me on a totally different path,” said Odessa Moore, Participant, Shelters to Shutters. “S2S gave me a new outlook on life, a rewarding new career as a leasing consultant and a home. I love this industry. I know what it’s like to lose a home and the joy of transitioning into a new home; that’s the part that drives me. There’s a real need for people in this industry that are going to be focused, loyal and driven.”

Over the last year, Entrata has kept up-to-date on the progress of Odessa and Shelters to Shutters and has been continuously impressed by the work they are doing to build a sustainable workforce for our industry and helping rebuild the lives of homeless in our communities.

Odessa can still be spotted working for Middleburg properties. She now beams with pride as she recently received her NALP certificate. She is one of more than 100 individuals that have been changed by the program and are no longer experiencing homelessness.

“The progress we see made by these individuals when they are given a chance to rebuild and responsibility to work is remarkable,” said Andy Helmer, CEO, Shelters to Shutters. “We’ve seen a job retention rate for these individuals at more than 92 percent compared to the industry average of a mere 50 percent. But, we couldn’t do it without the help and support of our industry friends.”

The organization now has 21 partners across the industry and is looking for additional support to provide jobs for candidates or to kick off a resident giving campaign in one of the cities in which they operate.

As a sign of Entrata’s commitment to helping the organization move forward in their mission, the company donated $20,000 to the organization during its 2017 Summit. In addition, Entrata launched a one-day text-to-donate giving campaign held on Sept. 21. Thanks to generous donations from our clients and friends, plus an Entrata match of those donations, an additional $4,100 was raised during the campaign.
